Arizona Opera seeks a motivated and detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join its Finance team. This role is pivotal in ensuring financial health, transparency, and sustainability while supporting the organization's mission of inspiring and educating diverse audiences.
The Staff Accountant oversees critical financial processes, ensures compliance with accounting standards, and delivers accurate financial reporting.

Job Title: Staff Accountant

Key Responsibilities
Financial Management
- Assist with monthly financial close processes, including journal entries and account reconciliations
- Maintain monthly schedules for fixed assets, prepaids, deferred revenue, and other financial accounts
- Ensure proper classification of transactions by account and department
Compliance and Reporting
- Assist with preparing and maintaining audit schedules and coordinate with external auditors during the annual audit process
- Assist with preparing the organization’s Form 990 and other regulatory filings
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards
Budget and Analysis
- Contribute to creating and maintaining financial reports and budgets
- Provide financial analysis and insights to support planning and decision-making
Special Projects
- Participate in finance-related initiatives and special projects as assigned by leadership
Qualifications
Education and/or Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Minimum of 3 years of accounting experience; nonprofit experience is strongly preferred
- Experience with audit processes and financial compliance is required
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in QuickBooks Online, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Adobe, SharePoint
- Knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards

Work Environment and Physical Demands:
- The work environment is generally quiet, and in an office setting, but intensifies during periods when the company is in production
- Extended periods at a workstation, using a keyboard, and viewing a computer screen
- Ability to lift up to 20 pounds occasionally

- Reliable transportation required
