Development Officer

 

The ASU Foundation (ASUF) fosters partnerships between ASU and like-minded individuals, corporations and foundations who believe in ASU’s mission and provide resources for ASU to manifest its charter into meaningful impact.   

 

The mission of the Engagement and Outreach team is to support ASUF by creating value, building trust and connecting people to their passions through philanthropy. Our goal is to craft a unique journey for each individual – connecting their passions to opportunities that philanthropically advance ASU. The Engagement and Outreach team is comprised of these departments: Engagement and Outreach Development, Donor Relations, Scholarship Advancement, Annual Giving, Alumni Success, ASU Family and Engagement Programs. Our teams work collaboratively to advance the ASU Charter and develop strong relationships with our donors at every stage of their giving lifecycle.

 

The Engagement and Outreach Development team is focused on supporting university wide-fundraising initiatives. Our fundraising priorities include President’s Club, ASU Women and Philanthropy, Parent and Family Philanthropy, Mirabella at ASU, Faculty and Staff Philanthropy, Polytechnic Garden Commons, ASU Library, Education for Humanity/ASU for Refugees and other additional special projects. We work collaboratively with all units at ASU and their development staff to coordinate fundraising efforts and how to strategically move donors through the pipeline for their giving and engagement with the university.

 

The Development Officer for Engagement and Outreach is responsible for implementing and coordinating comprehensive fundraising and/or engagement programs aimed at identifying, cultivating, and securing gifts in conjunction with the objectives and strategies of ASU Foundation (ASUF) on behalf of our assigned units: President’s Club, ASU Women and Philanthropy, Mirabella, ASU Parents and Family and other centrally based funding priorities. In partnership with unit development directors, ASU Enterprise Partners, and university faculty and staff, this position will identify opportunities and develop engagement strategies for securing and maintaining donors across these programs and continue their donor journey and engagement at ASU.

 

 

What you'll do

  • Actively engages with donors, alumni, faculty, staff, parents, volunteers and students with a primary focus on securing annual gifts between $1,000 - $25,000 in accordance with core performance metrics

  • Contributes to the strategic planning and execution of fundraising and engagement activities

  • Participates in developing and implementing best practices for donor engagement, solicitation, and stewardship

  • Facilitates connections between donors, prospects, and ASU through various events, communications, and opportunities

  • Collaborates with ASU departments to ensure cohesive solicitation efforts and marketing strategies

  • Utilizes Salesforce to manage donor information and coordinates with research teams to advance prospects into the major gift pipeline

  • Assists in managing and staffing ASUF and ASU events, enhancing donor engagement

  • Supports specific development program tasks, including monitoring foundation fundraising and campaign progress

  • Coordinates engagement strategies across the enterprise, focusing on maximizing faculty, staff, and student involvement

  • Manages budgets for designated projects and events, adhering to allocated funds.

  • Utilizes the University's databases and resources to effectively manage relationships with the ASU community

Qualifications

What you'll need

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to interact effectively with academic leadership, faculty, prospects, donors, and/or volunteers in a wide range of roles

  • Ability to conduct research, gather data, analyze information, and prepare effective, accurate, and timely reports and other documents to support development objectives

  • Database management skills

  • Ability to exercise good judgment, to demonstrate an understanding of ethics related to development activities, and to use discretion in interactions with donors, prospects, volunteers, and others

  • Ability to foster effective working relationships within a team environment

  • Community relations skills and the ability to communicate and work effectively within a diverse community

  • Program planning and leadership skills

  • Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality and responsibility regarding information related to Foundation and University business and confidential prospect information

  • Highly developed verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present effectively to small and large groups

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and comfortable working in donor/prospect computer database systems

  • Ability to represent the institution well and possess an advocate’s belief in the vision of ASU as the New American University

  • If this position is assigned to the Athletics Department, either administratively or functionally, compliance with all NCAA rules and regulations is required Knowledge of fundraising techniques including proposal development, prospect identification, fund solicitation, database management, donor tracking, and social networking and marketing tools is preferred

 

 

Relevant qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or currently enrolled in bachelor's degree program

  • One (1) to three (3) years of successful development experience

  • Demonstrated ability in securing gifts from individuals, corporations, foundations, and other private funding sources

  • Demonstrated ability in planning and implementing long- and short-range development initiatives in conjunction with strategic planning processes

  • Demonstrated organizational skills and experience in managing events and other complex activities in support of development objectives
