About Us

The Burton Family Foundation is an Arizona-based philanthropy supporting the vital work of youth, education, and human services organizations across the state. Since inception in 2015, the foundation has awarded more than 1,500 grants and scholarships totaling $46 million to numerous causes including youth programming, college and career readiness initiatives, services for the homeless, and resources for immigrants and refugees. The foundation is seeking a Philanthropy Intern to support the foundation’s work with nonprofits across Arizona. The Philanthropy Intern will play an important role in facilitating communication with nonprofits seeking support from the foundation as well as active grant partners, researching organizations that align with the foundation’s funding priorities, organizing and facilitating site visits, and preparing grants for review by leadership.

Essential Duties

  • Review inbound Letters of Intent for alignment with the foundation’s funding priorities and prepare recommendations for consideration by leadership.
  • Research and organize information pertaining to prospective grant partners.
  • Review, summarize, and prepare grants for review by foundation leadership.
  • Prepare materials for grant awards including award letters, grant agreements, reporting process, etc.
  • Facilitate communication with prospective and current grant partners via phone, email, and virtual meetings.
  • Organize and facilitate nonprofit site visits with current and prospective grant partners.
  • Collect, organize, and summarize data pertaining to the foundation’s grantmaking, community data, nonprofit impact, etc.
  • Gather and organize news about grantee and foundation partners for inclusion in quarterly newsletter.
  • Support minor website maintenance by responding to inbound communications, updating information on Burton Family Foundation website, etc.
  • Provide social media assistance as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned to support Burton Family Foundation as needed.

Schedule and Availability

  • Hours:15 hours per week
  • Schedule: Open to discussing weekly availability with candidate
  • Modality: Hybrid – Phoenix, AZ (primarily remote 90% of time)

Compensation

  • $20 per hour plus $70 monthly bring your own device reimbursement

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a degree in nonprofit leadership and management, public service and public policy, community resources and development, or related field.
  • This position operates on a hybrid work schedule with 90% of time spent working remotely. As such, candidates must be self-motivated and demonstrate exceptional time management skills.
  • Candidates must be comfortable interacting with external stakeholders via phone, email, and virtually and demonstrate a professional demeanor as a representative of the foundation.
  • Candidates should have familiarity with (or be comfortable learning) Wix, Constant Contact, Canva, and the Google Workspace suite of tools including Gmail, Google Drive, Docs and more.
