POSITION DESCRIPTION: PARK PROJECTS MANAGER
As the official philanthropic and collaborative partner of Grand Canyon National Park, Grand Canyon Conservancy’s mission is to inspire generations of park champions to cherish and support the natural and cultural wonder of Grand Canyon. GCC raises private funds, operates retail shops within the park, and provides premier educational programs about the natural and cultural history of the region.

Grand Canyon Conservancy is seeking a Park Projects Manager responsible for collaborating across GCC teams, with NPS, and other partners to implement high-quality projects that benefit Grand Canyon. This position is highly visible in the park, interfacing with multiple NPS employees at all levels of park leadership. The position requires close attention to GCC compliance with NPS cooperative agreements; strategic problem-solving skills; the ability to convene, align, and lead stakeholders across multiple organizations; experience negotiating and managing third-party contracts; and overseeing project budgets, deliverables, timelines, and reporting.

The Park Projects Manager position is Hybrid; candidates must be within a six-hour drive of the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. The position requires travel to the Grand Canyon monthly for multiple days at a time. It is a full-time, exempt, benefit-eligible position that reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer and works closely with all GCC’s Executive Team members.  

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

PARTNERSHIP AND STRATEGIC LEADERSHIP
•    Accelerate execution of priority projects by driving accountability, clearly defining roles and responsibilities, and taking an outcome-focused approach to stakeholder management across GCC and NPS contributors. 
•    Develop deep knowledge of organizational operations and strategic priorities of both GCC and NPS 
•    Partner with NPS and GCC Operations, Philanthropy, and Finance teams to document and record project work and provide regular updates to staff.
•    Serve on planning teams related to capital projects and major initiatives.
•    Represent the organization at GCC and NPS meetings and events as requested.
•    Prepare and deliver high-level presentations on projects and execution status for the Board of Directors or other audiences as needed under the guidance of the COO.
•    Work directly with NPS partnerships liaison and GCC teams to develop and implement annual work plans under NPS Directors' Orders.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT & PROCESS IMPROVEMENT
•    Ensure close collaboration with NPS, Conservancy, and contractor staff in managing long-range capital projects, including the compliance process for capital project fundraising. 
•    Communicate and collaborate closely with NPS partnership liaison and GCC grants and development officers to facilitate the grant proposal and reporting process, manage disbursement of funds and sharing of data, and maximize NPS-GCC communication and partnership
•    Manage project budgets: review invoices and approve payments
•    Review & evaluate funded project/program design, content, execution & implementation
•    Communicate with NPS project and program managers to record and monitor project milestones, track proposed changes to projects, troubleshoot issues, and keep GCC staff informed
•    Develop & manage new and existing contracts and agreements, records retention, and tracking of deliverables. 
•    Develop and improve project governance models, operational systems, processes, and policies to accelerate implementation of GCC-funded projects, programs, and initiatives at Grand Canyon, including:
o    Contract negotiation and management
o    Availability of funds reporting and stakeholder communication
o    Intake and tracking of NPS requests for disbursement 
o    Annual planning and workplan development for NPS and GCC 
o    Project tracking, reporting, and stakeholder engagement
•    In partnership with the Director of Operations and other designees of the COO: 
o    Develop scopes of work, requests for proposals, and SOPs to support identification, solicitation, and selection of contractors
o    Facilitate consultant communication and relationship with NPS and other partners, monitor progress, approve work packages, manage budgets, and approve payments
o    Monitor and track contracted work and deliverables 
o    Facilitate onsite assessment to drive project implementation and monitor contractors

WORKING CONDITIONS 
•    This position is predominantly sedentary at a computer desk 
•    Ability to drive to various sites at Grand Canyon, including walking over uneven surfaces and through historic buildings
•    Ability to work evenings or weekends on a limited basis as needed for special meetings

TOTAL COMPENSATION 
GCC provides a comprehensive benefits package, including vacation and holiday pay, sick leave, Canyon Experience Days, an employer-supplemented health benefits package including medical, dental, vision, and health savings account (HSA) plan, employer-paid long-term disability and life insurance, an employer-paid 401(k) retirement plan, and discounts in our retail stores and Grand Canyon Conservancy Field Institute offerings. The hiring salary for the position is 85K annually.  

 

 

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
•    Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Nonprofit Management or Leadership, Public Administration/Public Affairs, or a related field, and 3-5 years of relevant professional experience; additional experience or educational achievements may be in lieu of expressed minimums in either category. 
•    Proven track record of managing projects from inception to completion using strategic, agile, and solutions-focused approaches and effective leadership skills.
•    Prior knowledge of and/or experience in process improvement methodologies such as Kaizen, CIP, Value Mapping, or other relevant systems.
•    Knowledge of grant-funded programming, tracking, and reporting, or similar budget management and tracking skills supported by strong financial acumen and understanding of nonprofit financial modeling.
•    Experience with contracting processes and understanding of best practices.
•    Proven ability to manage work in a highly organized manner with attention to detail, and to prioritize and reassess work within a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
•    Excellent communication skills as demonstrated by the ability to be persuasive, resolve conflicts, lead and motivate teams, customize messaging to reach diverse audiences, and negotiate for mutual benefit whenever possible.
•    Technologically savvy, with proven experience using tools or systems to implement new processes that increase efficiency and demonstrate outcomes.
•    Personal qualities of integrity, collegiality, collaboration, and a commitment to GCC’s mission.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND CHARACTERISTICS
•    At least 3 years of experience working with federal/state agencies on major projects or initiatives. 
•    Experience working with the National Park Service or other Department of the Interior entities.
•    Master's degree in Public Administration, a similar field, or comparable professional experience.
•    Project Management certification (PMP or similar).
•    Process Improvement certification (Six Sigma, SSGI-CPIS, or similar).
