Position description

Posting last updated 2 weeks 2 days ago

The Singletons is seeking a dynamic and uniquely talented individual to fill the Meal Program & Community Builder role—someone who thrives in the kitchen, loves creating with purpose, and shines when leading people.

This role is perfect for someone passionate about culinary creativity and community service. You’ll take the lead in transforming family-friendly recipes into meal kits that can be efficiently assembled by volunteer teams, ensuring every ingredient contributes to nourishment, comfort, and dignity for the single-parent families we serve—families bravely navigating the challenges of cancer.

Beyond the kitchen, this individual must be a strong and compassionate leader, capable of engaging and inspiring diverse groups of volunteers through hands-on activities and mission-driven service.

The ideal candidate brings organizational strength, culinary creativity, and a warm, people-first approach. If you can mix ingredients and human connection with equal skill—and you believe in the healing power of shared meals and moments—this may be your perfect calling.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead The Singletons Kitchen Program: Oversee menu creation, meal order forms, inventory management, and meal kit assembly preparation.
  • Manage Food Prep Logistics: Develop prep and shopping lists; ensure timely purchase of all ingredients and supplies. Delegate and supervise volunteers as appropriate.
  • Coordinate Meal Kit Volunteer Sessions: Plan, organize, and lead engaging volunteer opportunities for meal kit assembly.
  • Drive Volunteer Engagement: Innovate new ways to involve volunteers in kitchen prep, grocery rescue, and delivery efforts.

  • Oversee Grocery Rescue Operations: Manage weekly food pickups from Sprouts and ensure effective distribution of rescued goods through partnerships like St. Mary’s Food Bank.
  • Manage the Bare Necessities Program: Track inventory and assemble monthly bags of essential items for needy families.
  • Coordinate Monthly Care Days: Organize distribution of meals and essentials; lead volunteer teams in delivering resources to families.
  • Support Singletons Santa Program: Work closely with the Family Care & Case Management Director to manage wishlists, coordinate gift sponsors, and ensure seamless distribution.
  • Facilitate Tucson Outreach: Travel to Diamond Children’s Hospital in Tucson 1–2 times monthly for in-person distribution and program support.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Certification in Culinary Arts is preferred but not required.
  • 1-3 years of experience in a restaurant kitchen, catering, or private chef preferred.
  • Experience meal prepping, planning menus, and grocery shopping for large groups.
  • Knowledge of dietary restrictions and nutrition.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Comfortable leading a team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective volunteer coordination and community engagement.
  • Knowledgeable of food safety regulations and best practices. Food Handler card required.
  • Proficient in Google Suite, especially email, forms, and sheets.
  • Familiar with Canva.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and community partners.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing needs and schedules. 1 monthly Saturday (Care Day) each month.
