Cowtown S.K.A.T.E. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to expanding access to physical, mental, and social health benefits of skateboarding. Through resource development and capacity building, our work provides goods, education, and support to youth in underserved communities.

DESCRIPTION
Cowtown S.K.A.T.E. is seeking a seasoned and passionate Executive Director to lead the operations staff, programming, and fundraising activities. The Executive Director is the visionary leader responsible for the overall directions, strategy, and management of the nonprofit organization. They work closely with the Board of Directors to ensure the organization’s mission and goals are achieved.

As the Executive Director, you will have the unique opportunity to build a team from the ground up. This includes refining processes, establishing workflows, and assembling a high-performing team to achieve strategic goals. You will play a critical role in the organization’s vision, culture, and long-term success. 
 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Leads staff in the development and implementation of short and long-range plans, policies and other activities.
  • Prioritizes activities and responsibilities that support the stated mission, goals, objectives, and policies of the organization.
  • Supervises all assigned staff.  Responsibilities include interviewing, development of policies for hiring and training employees, planning, assigning, directing work, appraising performance, incentivizing and holding employees accountable, addressing complaints and resolving them. 
  • Develops, implements, and achieves organizational goals, strategic plans and submits them for approval to the Board of Directors. 
  • Delegates work appropriately, complete tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • Communicates effectively to promote positive relations within the organization in leading by example and promoting a high level of positive staff morale.
  • Identifies professional development and learning needs of the staff and shares in the responsibility for fulfilling those needs.
  • Leads and manages a program that includes the annual fund plan, foundation and corporate gifts, special events, and planned giving. 
  • Oversees and implements strategies that will grow annual revenue. 
  • Actively takes part in fundraising goals and strategies, including identifying resource requirements, researching funding sources, establishing strategies to approach funders, submitting proposals, administering fundraising records and documentation.
  • Cultivates potential donors, creates strategy and oversees grants to local agencies, and follows up with donors in a timely manner to meet annual development goals.
  • Provides overall administration of the operation of the organization to include reviewing and evaluating results of program activities, ensuring that continuing contractual obligations are being fulfilled; allocates resources for greater program effectiveness and efficiency; develops organizational and administrative policies and program objectives for Board consideration.
  • Oversees the research, identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of major gift prospects, with emphasis on foundations. 
  • Oversees the preparation of letters, grant proposals, and other reports or materials needed for effective cultivation and solicitation of prospects. 
  • Prepares annual development plan to corresponding budget outlining revenue and expenses; monitors progress against goals and produces timely reports.    
  • Assumes responsibility for all Development reports to the Board and other agencies. 
  • Assists the Board with recommending and researching potential new donors. 
  • Collaborates with staff, consultants, Board, and grantees to gather stories and statistics that demonstrate the organization’s work of grantees and donors. 
  • Oversees the creation of a public relations plan, and an advertising plan. 
  • Assume responsibility for Program Director, Development, and Logistics as needed.
  • Works with marketing to design and oversee the production of all major collateral including the organizations newsletter, the organizations  website, and works with designers and printers to promote the organization's fundraising goals and activities. 
  • Oversee the development of marketing goals and strategies for a variety of audiences and events and develops professional material appropriate for distribution.
  • Create and implement communication with the Board of Directors. 
  • Represent the organization in all external relationships with community leaders, governmental bodies, funders, referral organizations and educators, and like-minded civic organizations. 
  • Presents organization in a strong, positive image to relevant stakeholders and external constituencies in personal communication, written communication, and social media.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum three years of relevant professional experience.
  • Ability and proven track to develop partnerships with stakeholders, community partners, donors, and businesses. 
  • Identify potential sources of fundraising efforts.
  • Innovate and motivate staff to learn, grow and excel. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs including Word and Excel.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with sensitivity, integrity, and accuracy.
  • Reliability, responsiveness, and courtesy in all team and donor interactions.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented. You are self-driven and have excellent time management skills. You feel confident shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
  • Collegial, collaborative team player. You enjoy learning together with your teammates and helping others to succeed in their work as well. You bring a collaborative attitude to engaging with other team members and external stakeholders alike.
  • Working knowledge of fiscal and legal guidelines and requirements associated with 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations.
  • Ability to think critically, problem solve, and exhibit independent judgment necessary to guide and evaluate the effectiveness of the organization.
  • Working knowledge of the educational community, fiscal and organizational management, and effective written and oral communication.

 

Requirements:

  • Successful background check
  • Fingerprint clearance card
  • First aid/CPR certification
  • Occasionally standing up to 6-8 hours 
  • Lifting up to 40 pounds with assistance
