Reports to: Chief Financial Officer
Position Description:
The Senior accountant directly report to the Chief Financial Officer and is responsible for managing an organization’s finances functions and operations. This includes ensuring that other accounting professionals are accurately recording all costs and income, preparing financial reports and reviewing account balance reconciliations. They are responsible for the implementation of approved accounting practices and provide accurate reporting on financial results. Responsible for payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and invoicing/billing areas, including cash receipts, general ledger accounting and account reconciliations.
Responsibilities:
- Supervising and managing the staff accountants on job duties, deliverables and ensure deadlines are met and the work is accurate.
- Provide support to the annual budgeting process. This includes operating capital budgets, as well as endowment(s).
- Monitor monthly activity against the approved Budget, review with department heads and communicate results to the Controller and CFO.
- Maintain and support contract management systems and facilitate required financial and programmatic reporting.
- Oversee and serve as backup for monthly grant and contract billing.
- Provide documentation and support for audit preparation, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and policies.
- Ensure that all restricted grants and spending are accounted appropriately in the finance system and the financial reports, consistent with GAAP and nonprofit accounting guidance.
- Ensure the integrity of accounting information by recording, verifying, consolidating, and entering transactions.
- Review, update, and enforce compliance with the organization’s fiscal policies and procedures and implement best practices.
- Assist all Department Heads with special projects as needed.
- Prepares and records asset liability, revenue, and expense entries by compiling and analyzing account information.
- Maintains and balances subsidiary accounts by verifying, allocating, posting, and reconciling transactions and resolving discrepancies.
- Summarizes financial status by collecting information and preparing balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and other documents as needed or support.
- Manages and supervises the payroll process and ensures its timely and accurate completion.
- Completes external audit by analyzing and scheduling general ledger accounts and providing information for auditors.
- Maintains all legal compliance by following all legal requirements.
- Secures financial information by completing database backups as needed.
- Protects organization’s value by keeping information confidential.
- Support in Reporting all necessary 1099's for STF and ARM at year-end
- Ensure accurate and timely processing of positive pay transactions
- Generate reports for internal use
- Compile figures to assist staff in preparing agency grant requests and contracts
- Assemble work papers for the annual audit
- Adhere to all behavioral General Competencies
- Adhere to STF and ARM policies and procedures
Requirements
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in finance/accounting or related field with a minimum (3 – 5) years of relevant direct work experience in accounting including:
- Not-for-profit or government experience or government experience preferred
- Strong understanding of GAAP, and other financial fundamentals.
- Ability to learn and master all finance utilized systems for control, training and transparency, highly proficient with (Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT) experience or similar nonprofit system.
- Ability to supervise, train and develop direct report staff accountants.
- Monitor and ensure all Month – end closing deadlines are complete for review and submission.
- Grant billing and related reports creation and utilization.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and delivery of financial reporting and audit support.
- Extensive accounts payable and accounts receivable experience and supervision
- Research and resolve vendor and customer discrepancies

Location:
- 125 E. University Drive, Mesa, Arizona
- This is a hybrid role – 4 days in the office and 1 day remote. The first 90 days are 5 days in the office.
