Position description
The Finance Director is responsible for planning, directing, organizing, coordinating, and evaluating the overall activities of the accounting department. This position supports the organizational budget and oversees accounts payable, payroll, financial reporting, and balance sheet management. This position supervises one to four direct reports.

- Understand, analyze, reconcile, and correct transaction flow from multiple systems back to the general ledger; communicating variances and recommending solutions to ensure accuracy of reports and financial data.
- Analyze and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; ensure timely reconciliation and resolution of any processing and/or posting errors that impact accurate reporting.
- Assists the Controller in planning and executing monthly and year end processing, closing, and audit duties.
- Effectively communicate and present the critical financial matters to staff, volunteers, the Vice President, Controller, Chief Financial & Operating Officer (CFOO), and others as needed.
- Manage the State Employee Charitable Campaign, First Things First accounting, government grants, and other charitable campaigns and grants, including timely review of reconciliation, invoice submissions, and financial reports.
- Prepare financial reporting materials for donor, corporate, foundation, and other grant requests.
- Administer and review all financial plans and budgets; monitor progress and changes and keep pertinent staff abreast of the organization’s budget and financial status.
- Support the annual budgeting process and financial forecasting in conjunction with the Vice President Controller and CFOO.
- Maintain ongoing working relationships with financial institutions, human resource department, and other relative partnerships.
- Update and implement all necessary business policies and accounting practices.
- Is proficient in all aspects of all accounting requirements, compliance, and regulatory requirements.
- Supervises one to four direct reports and ensures that each process or function under supervision is performed accurately and timely, providing guidance to direct reports on an ongoing basis.
- Initiate and coordinate projects that align with company goals within the accounting department, between cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
- Demonstrate ability to efficiently manage and prioritize multiple tasks.
- Performs other duties as requested by the Vice President, Controller and CFOO.
Qualifications
Required Education & Experience
A combination of education or relevant experience may be considered in lieu of degree requirements.
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics or related field or equivalent experience.
- Experience in management and supervision with organizational skills and ability to motivate and develop staff.
- More than five years’ experience in an office environment with experience in finance and in managing financial/accounting software.
- Highly organized and able to balance multiple projects and multiple meetings on a regular basis.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
